Driving Change

Situation

Sometimes change is invited and sometimes it's foisted upon you. Navigating the disruption change brings about requires vision, courage and energy.

I've been at the forefront of transformative change three times in the past twenty years, tasked with seeing that my organizations emerge bigger, stronger and better equipped to meet future challenges.

Action
My successful journeys began with setting an aspirational vision of the future. It's essential to know what achievement looks like so you'll recognize it when it occurs.

Next, I mapped out a tactical path that stepped off at where we were that day and ended with where we want to be. The paths were steep and rugged, and they required faith and courage to traverse.

Finally, I reiterated that vision and path over and over again until all rowers in the boat were pulling in the same direction. I drove home the concepts of purpose, mission, work and reward, and encouraged and empowered folks who were all in.
Result
I created Transwestern's first "Regional Resources" initiative which intentionally connected people, offices and business lines to win and execute more transactions. I recruited new talent and raised the efficacy of existing producers, and I delivered or extracted unique and innovative value to virtually every function on the platform.

For Newmark Epic, I guided the firm post-recession to a completely new beginning, going from local to national, streamlining talent, growing revenues and positioning the company to succeed - and sell - in a capital event that benefited everyone.

For The Alter Group, I lead the re-launch of our transaction capabilities, transitioning us from an internal, single-client owner brokerage to a true, third-party tenant rep, agency leasing and property management group serving clients such as KBS, LaSalle Investment Management and UBS.
